Traditional fastening methods leave gaps.

LOCTITE threadlockers fill them.

Mechanical locking devices (such as split washers, nylon nuts, flat washers) were invented to solve the common problem of loosening that happens in most threaded assemblies. The reality is that they don’t maintain clamp load as assemblies “locked” with these devices often loosen under vibration, thermal expansion and/or improper torque.

Don’t let a little fastener become a big problem

Why Threaded Assemblies Fail

Benefits of Using LOCTITE® Threadlockers

  1. Locks mating threads to prevent loosening from vibration & shock
  2. Seals against fluids & corrosion
  3. Provides lubricity to achieve controlled strength during assembly1.
  4. Prevents galling and seizing for reliable disassembly

Red or Blue? How to Choose a LOCTITE® Threadlocker

There are 3 things to consider when choosing a threadlocker and color is key, as it represents strength:

1. Strength

  •     Low Strength (Purple)
  •     Medium Strength (Blue) – most applications can be served with blue threadlocker
  •     High Strength (Red)

2. Fastener Size

  •     From < ¼” (6 mm) fasteners on up, there’s a LOCTITE threadlocker

3. Application Methods

  •     Pre-Assembly: Most LOCTITE® liquid threadlockers are designed to be applied at the moment parts are assembled
  •     Post-Assembly: Wicking grade formula can be applied on parts that are already assembled

How to Disassemble Fasteners Assembled with LOCTITE Threadlockers

LOCTITE threadlockers will reliably lock and seal threaded fasteners.  But what happens when you want or need to take apart a threadlocked assembly?  LOCTITE liquid threadlockers also provide for reliable disassembly – so you can take it apart when you want to.  The key is to start with the right grade of threadlocker for your needs: low to medium strength products can be disassembled with hand tools; high strength products require localized heat and then hand tools.
