Mr. Kim: Introduced in the 1990s in footwear industry, Polyurethane Reactive Hotmelt Adhesive, so called PUR or PURHM, to react with moisture in the air and creates strong crosslinks, which enable them to deliver excellent bonding characteristics and durability. In adhesive technologies, PUR hotmelt is the popular solution for bonding applications relating to packaging and woodworking.
In Henkel, with the purpose to simplify the stockfit bonding process, we developed PUR for 2 dimensions, which shortens the current 2-side cementing process to only one-side cementing.

* Interview: What are outstanding benefits of 2D PUR solution?
Mr. Kim: There are various benefits of 2D PUR, which can be listed as below:
- Adhesive consumption reduction via single side coating
- Labor reduction via automation
- Higher productivity
- Total cost-in-use saving
To demonstrate for these statements, we did a quick test comparing between manual brush process with the new one applying 2D PUR by Henkel. The test result showed that while manual process can complete 4 units per minute, the process with 2D PUR can reach 24 units in the same time duration.
*Interviewer: Does 2D PUR solution require specific machine or set up in shoes production line?
Step to apply PUR hotmelt to stockfit
Mr. Kim: Sure. Dedicated equipment is required to use for roller coating. In addition, heat activator and press machine also should be equipped for full stockfit process. The device set up is easy handling.
