Quick, Easy and Sustainable Plastic Repair

All paintable, plastic car parts can be repaired quickly and cost effectively with Henkel’s comprehensive, TEROSON® Plastic Repair range. It is a sustainable solution that allows bodyshops to reduce material costs and provide a responsible alternative to part replacement. Three products complete the range and collectively they can be used to repair any plastic damage such as holes, scratches and cracks and to rebuild small plastic parts. All are sandable and over paintable.

For damage smaller than 7 cm the go-to product is TEROSON PU SF 9225 ME, a fast-curing, two-component polyurethane repair adhesive with a pot life of two minutes.  It is suitable for paintable interior and exterior parts and, in particular, for repairing damage to bumpers, aprons and spoilers. The product cures at room temperature after 10 minutes, has excellent sandability and is overpaintable with all car paint systems.

TEROSON PU 9225 is an OEM specified repair solution. It is one of many in the overall TEROSON range that benefits from Henkel’s longstanding and close working relationship with the world’s automotive OEMs both in manufacturing and the aftermarket. TEROSON PU 9225 is the best choice for damage whose surface area exceeds 7 cm; a tack-free cure is achieved with an infrared light at 60°C or Flexitherm heating pads.

Ultra-fast curing is a key benefit of the third product in the TEROSON Plastic Repair range. TEROSON PU 9225 UF ME is a two-component polyurethane adhesive with a pot life of up to one minute. It is typically used for rebuilding plastic interior and exterior parts such as broken or missing lugs and is also excellent for Smart Repair. TEROSON PU 9225 UF ME has no H251 risk phrase due to its micro-emission property.

So how easy is it to repair a plastic bumper with TEROSON? The answer is, it’s simple. Firstly, clean and pre-treat the surface. Drill or carve out the damage and roughen surfaces on both faces with a sander. Cut the fibre mesh to size and spray a thin coat of primer onto both sides. Open the TEROSON PU cartridge and squeeze out a small amount of material until both adhesive components run equally.

Apply the product to the back of the repair area, position the fibre mesh and press it down into the adhesive with a spreader until the material is saturated. Apply the adhesive on top of the mesh and cover the repair area completely; allow to cure before repeating the exercise on the front side. Grind the repair area to smooth the surface and apply a thin coat of primer. Apply the plastic filler - TEROSON UP 250 is an ideal choice for finishing off plastic repairs. 30-minutes after application the surface can be sanded in readiness for painting.
