Henkel Adhesive Technologies partner with Bluesign for highest  environmental, health, and safety standards

Henkel’s plants and adhesives in the textile-sector have been assessed by the renowned global ‘Bluesign SYSTEM’ . Bluesign is a global solution that assesses compliance and increases sustainable performance, bringing together partners across the entire textiles production supply chain. The Swiss-based organization is considered a renowned and particularly strict verifier in this sector. This assessment means that Henkel textile manufacturing processes, and an increasing number of its products, comply with the strict Bluesign standards in terms of environment, health, and safety (EHS). At the same time, they do not compromise on performance or efficiency. Having started their partnership in 2017, Bluesign and Henkel have now entered the next stage in their partnership in 2020. With extensive trainings that ensure an in-depth understanding of the system, Henkel’s team is now able to effectively leverage Bluesign with its tools and its services when engaging with its customers. This helps them in return to drive the environment, health and safety in their production forward.

As a leading global supplier, Henkel’s customers expect the highest performance levels from its products, while at the same time ensuring that they meet strict product, environmental and operational safety criteria. The approval by Bluesign solution effectively demonstrates that Henkel’s textile adhesives business is able to deliver on both for its customers. As the assessment includes both the company’s plants and products, Henkel is able to cater to the needs of different parts of the supply chain in textile production.

One of Henkel’s adhesive solutions that has been approved by Bluesign is TECHNOMELT PUR. The textile hotmelt adhesives successfully convinced Bluesign with their excellent performance, such as the “adhesion to most fabrics with high water repellent treated” or “very good washing resistance”, all while meeting EHS-criteria, for low odor, for example. The list of textile adhesives by Henkel that meet Bluesign’s guidelines is constantly expanding. With regard to the production processes at Henkel’s plants, the Bluesign approval covers different criteria, such as the tracing of input stream management, product stewardship and resource productivity. These criteria are met in Henkel’s production facilities, ensuring sustainable production in compliance with the ‘Bluesign SYSTEM’ .

Bluesign is a global solution assessing and seeking to improve the production of textiles. Measures for compliance and increased sustainability as well as for responsibly produced textiles are taken, while meeting the highest demands in quality and design. It systematically focusses on input steam management and process management in the textile industry. The system brings together partners across the entire industry supply chain – connecting chemical suppliers, manufacturers and brands.

In alignment with its sustainability strategy, Henkel’s textile department has entered the partnership with Bluesign in 2017. Since then, the partnership has been continuously expanded. In May 2020, Henkel started to hold webinars with Bluesign to increase in-depth knowledge and approaches to leverage the potential of Bluesign’s solution and tools. Henkel’s goal is to leverage the growing number of its Bluesign approved products to create value for its customers and to further improve safety along the production chain.
