Top 3 Ways LOCTITE® Can Help Designers Simplify Their Supply Chain and Inventory as a Pump Manufacturer

Adhesives Can Offer an Advantage With Supply Chain Challenges

Supply chain challenges have been affecting all manufacturing sectors since the start of the COVID pandemic, and industrial pump manufacture is no exception.

Supply chain issues are often regarded as primarily a purchasing challenge, yet the impact on engineers can be just as great. When specific components become scarce, engineers are in the hot seat to evaluate and qualify alternatives, often under high pressure from purchasing and manufacturing to react quickly.

This article explains the top three ways pump designers can capitalize on and leverage LOCTITE® solutions that are part of proven best practice in other sectors, to be more robust to withstand future supply chain disruptions.

1. Production Phase

LOCTITE Gasketing Sealant solutions offer a simple, cost-effective alternative to mechanical gaskets that can ensure intact and leak-free seals and resistance to high temperatures, pressure, and vibrations.

Engineers may scramble to get a compression gasket replacement, often because the gasket is for a low production volume pump. Because of this, it is not a high priority item for the gasket supplier when overall gasket demand exceeds their production capacity.

Anaerobic gasket supply chains are more robust than unique configurations of a compression gasket because they are a high-volume production item, used by many companies for many products. Henkel produces the same gasket formulation globally.

2. Active Service Parts Phase

Pump manufacturing companies maintain inventory of spare parts for their service and repair centers. The supply chain simplification designed in for the production phase are fully leveraged. A single gasketing product instead of multiple uniquely configured and sourced compression gaskets. It is easier to manage and maintain high service levels for a one high volume, multi-use anaerobic flange sealant than for the alternative – many lower volume, customer configuration gaskets.

In addition, with an anaerobic gasket, they no longer need to worry about the long lead time that the supplier may require for the compression gasket needed.

3. Post Active Service Parts Phase

Once the pump is discontinued, and customer demand for service parts declines, they can stop stocking that anaerobic gasket in their system and instead refer their customer to LOCTITE’s global distribution network. Their customer can purchase LOCTITE® products from their local distributor. It arrives with local country labelling and documentation.
