TEROSON EP 5150

Automotive manufacturers must take a variety of cured and uncured properties into consideration when choosing a structural adhesive for vehicle body joining. Henkel’s latest structural adhesive, TEROSON EP 5150, provides a comprehensive solution that meets these needs, offering one high viscosity formulation for both steel and aluminum bonding – effective for stiffening, medium-crash and high-crash performance needs.

Pre-dispersed nanoparticles are used to toughen epoxy polymers more effectively, enabling a strong resistance to crack propagation.

Cured Properties

As a result, the technology exhibits high t-peel strength and impact wedge peel strength. In the case of t-peel strength, TEROSON EP 5150 can achieve t-peel strength values of approximately 12 N/mm on cold-rolled steel, electrogalvanized steel, hot dipped galvanized steel and aluminum. High impact wedge peel strength at +23°C and -40°C , enable automakers to use thinner and higher yield strength steel substrates, while meeting crash requirements.

Uncured Properties

Global shipping and assembly of vehicle body components means significant potential for humidity exposure. As such, structural adhesives must be developed to meet necessary t-peel and impact wedge peel strength even after this exposure.

TEROSON EP 5150 demonstrates reduced blistering and interfacial failure due to reduced moisture absorption, enabling high t-peel strength even after three months of uncured exposure at 35°C and 85% relative humidity.

Wash-off resistance ensures robust processability during the metal pretreatment process

Additional uncured highlights include the ability to meet weld flammability requirements, as well as high wash-off resistance through increased thixotropy and yield stress – reducing the potential for contamination in the e-coat system.
