LOCTITE® PC 7227

Known as LOCTITE 7227

Features and Benefits

LOCTITE PC 7227 Brushable Ceramic Wear Resistant Coating is a two-part, flowable, ultra-smooth, ceramic-reinforced epoxy that provides a high gloss, low friction coating, protecting equipment from corrosion and wear.
LOCTITE® PC 7227 Brushable Ceramic Wear Resistant Coating is an ultra-smooth, brushable, ceramic and silicon carbide-filled, solvent-free coating that offers protection against turbulence, chemical attack, abrasion, and corrosion. The high gloss, low friction coating can be used to restore or increase pump efficiency. It can also be used to repair and protect heat exchanges and condensers, lining tanks, pipes, and chutes, resurfacing and repairing rudders and pintel housings and resurfacing cooling pump impellers and butterfly valves.
  • Ultra-smooth brushable consistency
  • Protects against abrasion, corrosion, and damage from turbulence
  • Easy to mix and apply
  • Can be used as a topcoat over LOCTITE® Wearing Compounds for applications requiring surface rebuilding and lasting protection
  • Ceramic and silicon carbide-filled - to provide maximum protection
  • Reduces downtime

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

Remove dirt, oil, grease, loose flaky rust, etc., with a suitable high pressure water cleaning system using LOCTITE® SF 7840 cleaner/degreaser.

2. Preparation - Blasting

Blast all surfaces to be coated, with a sharp edged angular grit, such as aluminum oxide, to a depth of profile of approximately 75 microns, and a degree of cleanliness of Very Thorough Blast Cleaning/Near White Metal (ISO 8501-1 SA 2½ /SSPC-SP 10).

3. Preparation - Cleaning

After blasting, metal surfaces should be cleaned with a waterless, or solvent based LOCTITE® cleaner, such as LOCTITE SF 7611 or SF 7633, and allow the surface to dry before application of the product. Coat the surface before any oxidation or contamination takes place.

4. Preparation - Protection from Flash Rusting

To avoid flash rust, repairs should be made as soon as possible or within a maximum 2 hours of blasting. Otherwise, apply a thin coat of LOCTITE SF 7515 to all surfaces and allow to react for 1 minute. After 1 minute, blow off with clean and dry compressed air until the surface is completely dry.

5. Mixing the Material

Measure 4.8 parts of resin and 1 part of hardener by weight or mix entire kit thoroughly until color is consistent.

6. Application

Brush apply fully mixed material to prepared surface by first forcing a thin layer deep into the texture of the substrate. Then immediately build up to the desired finished thickness of 250 to 500 microns (10 to 20 mils) per coat with a minimum of 2 coats to avoid any pin holes. Working and cure time depend on temperature and mass - the higher the temperature and the larger the mass, the faster the cure.

7. Inspection

Visually inspect for pinholes and misses just after application. Once the coating has cured, repeat visual inspection to confirm absence of pinholes, voids or damaged areas
