LOCTITE® 290 Wicking Grade Threadlocker

Features and Benefits

Thin, low-viscosity threadlocker with the ability to flow into difficult-to-reach cracks and crevices, making it ideal for locking preassembled fasteners.
LOCTITE® 290 is a green, medium-high strength threadlocker designed for the locking and sealing of threaded fasteners. Because of its low viscosity, the product wicks between engaged threads by capillary action and eliminates the need for disassembly prior to application. This makes it ideal for sealing porosities in welds, castings and powdered metal parts. The anaerobic adhesive cures when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces and prevents loosening and leakage due to shock and vibration.
  • Prevents fastener loosening on vibrating assemblies, e.g., pumps, gear boxes, presses
  • Ideal for locking preassembled fasteners, e.g. instrumentation fasteners, electrical connectors and set screws
  • Seals porosities in welds, castings and powdered metal parts
  • Requires heat for disassembly
  • Meets Mil Spec: Mil-S-46163A Type III Grade R

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation - Cleaning

It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7063/7064/7070 to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying adhesive.

2. Application - Post-Assembly

Assemble nut and bolt. Dispense a low-viscosity wicking grade threadlocker, such as LOCTITE 290, at the nut and bolt juncture.

3a. Disassembly - Hand Tools

Disassemble with standard hand tools.

3b. Disassembly - Heat

If disassembly is not possible using normal hand tools, apply localized heat to approximately 260°C. Disassemble while hot with standard hand tools.

Hint

For the disassembly of corroded or seized parts use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
