Collision repair is an important field of activity in body shops especially with the focus on preserving resources by repairing instead of exchanging damaged parts. Body fillers are great to restore the original shape of damaged parts as they are sandable, adhere to metal, glass fibre, aluminium and all paintable plastics (based on selected body filler) and withstand body movements, vibrations and minor knocks. Making it last for the life time of a vehicle.

In our instruction we show an example of rebuilding the surface of a car hood after damage using a fine filler. Make sure to use the correct body filler based on the substrate you work on.

STEP 1

Preparation I

Clean and pre-treat with TEROSON® VR 10. Remove existing paint film exposing an area of 5-10 cm wider than area to be repaired exposing bare metal.

STEP 2

Preparation II

Feather edge the remaining paint film with P120 followed by P150 to create a gentle slope to which filler can merge. Thoroughly clean and degrease sanded area with TEROSON® VR 10.

STEP 3

Mixing technique I

Make sure to have a clean, non-absorbent mixing board and applicator. Mix 50 gms of filler paste (TEROSON® UP 210)  to 4-5 gms of hardener (golf ball to a pea ratio). Use a gentle folding action when mixing the hardener to avoid adding air. 

STEP 4

Mixing technique II

Mix thoroughly until all traces of the red hardener are fully blended into the paste. Do not mix more than what can be used and applied in four minutes.

STEP 5

Spreading of filler

Using a clean spreader apply a thin layer of mixed filler on the metal surface (max. of 2 mm for best result). Use a spreading action—pressing the filler paste into the grooves created by initial sanding.

STEP 6

Levelling filler

Fill immediately to  the required level ensuring air is not trapped.

STEP 7

Curing

Let filler cure at room temperature. Accelerated cure can be done using an infrared heater (surface temperature max. 65 °C) after 10 minutes of room curing. Avoid using a hot-air gun!
