LOCTITE® SI 598

Known as LOCTITE 598

Features and Benefits

Pasty, 1-part, silicone adhesive sealant, which cures at room temperature to form a tough, flexible rubber gasket with excellent oil resistance.
LOCTITE® SI 598 is a metallic black, 1-part, RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) oxime silicone paste sealant. It cures at room temperature on exposure to moisture in the air to form a tough, flexible, silicone rubber gasket. Its thixotropic nature allows for easy flow dispensing, while preventing the migration of liquid product once applied to the part. It has excellent resistance to motor oils and can withstand operating temperatures from -54°C to 260°C (-65°F to 500°F). It resists ageing, weathering, and thermal cycling without hardening, shrinking or cracking.
  • Excellent motor oil resistance
  • Forms tough, flexible, silicone rubber gasket
  • Ideal for oil pans, transmission pans, valves and guides, differential covers

How to

Step by Step Guide

1. Preparation – Cleaning

Clean surfaces with solvent-based (non-CFC), general purpose surface cleaner LOCTITE® SF 7070 to ensure surfaces are free of dirt, dust, oil and any other contaminants. Allow to dry.

2. Preparation – Tubes only

Cut nozzle at 45° angle to create the proper bead diameter for your application. The appropriate bead diameter is dependent on the gaps that need to be filled, but it is best to start small and increase bead size if necessary. Typical bead sizes range from 1/8” to 1/4”. Screw cut nozzle onto tube for application.

3. Application

Moisture curing begins immediately after the product is exposed to the atmosphere, therefore parts to be assembled should be mated within a few minutes after the product is dispensed.

4. Application - Excess material

Excess material can be easily wiped away with non-polar solvents.

5. Assembly automation

For full automatic applications a volumetric dispensing system is recommended.
