For self adhesive applications with high demands such as high temperature resistance, good resistance against chemicals, sunlight or weather conditions, Novamelt offers UV-curable pressure sensitive adhesives under the brand name Novarad® RC. These products are based on acrylics or alternatively on thermoplastic rubber.
The UV-curable adhesives are suitable to replace solvent based acrylics and therefore they contribute to the reduction of solvent emissions into the environment. With the new UV-curable rubber hotmelts, we offer a highly interesting product range, which could be an optimum link between conventional and UV-curable acrylic hotmelts.
For many industrial intermediate products such as sound dampening or packaging technology, the self adhesive technology offers a smart and economical alternative compared to a mechanical assembly process.
At room temperature, UV-curable hot melt adhesive has a honey-like consistency. This product type is supplied in pails containing 18 kg or in steel drums containing 180 kg. The UV-hotmelt based on thermoplastic rubber is solid at room temperature and can be supplied in standard fibre drums.
The adhesive is melted with a drum-unloader and coated at 120 to 150 °C, depending on the specific application, on a standard roller- or slot-die coating machine. After the coating process, the adhesive is in line UV-cured by passing under UV lamps.
In addition to the UV-Acrylic hotmelt for technical applications with the well known high performance characteristics, such products are also available for medical applications with the following additional features: good temperature resistance (regarding skin temperature), possibility of sterilization and good water vapour penetrability. The excellent properties of hotmelt PSA such as high coating speeds, free from solvents and low machine investments can also be found at the UV-curable Acrylics for medical applications.
