Optimal protection for legendary furniture
Henkel Adhesive Technologies is offering customers from different industries a new generation of multi-metal coatings that deliver increased flexibility and efficiency combined with enhanced sustainability. At Fermob, the manufacturer of designer garden furniture, Bonderite M-NT 20120 coating technology is replacing the traditional iron-phosphating pretreatment process which called for the laborious treatment of contaminated process wastewater and the disposal of phosphorus-containing sewage sludge. In addition to its improved environmental performance, the new phosphate-free pretreatment technology also enables higher corrosion protection and reduces process complexity.
By using Bonderite M-NT 20120, Fermob is able to pretreat the metal parts of designer garden furniture with an exceptionally thin coat. Measuring only 20 to 30 nanometers (nm), the nanoceramic coating is much thinner than a conventional iron phosphate coat (50 to 100 nm) while significantly enhancing paint adhesion and improving corrosion protection by about 30 percent. Free of solvents and heavy metals the coating is applied on a zero-waste line to protect the environment and workers' health.
The new technology helps to improve performance and at the same time increases sustainability.
- Corrosion protection and paint adhesion are much better than those of traditional processes.
- Reduced process complexity enables faster cycle time and lower costs.
- Solvent- and heavy-metal-free coating reduces the environmental impact as the need to clean the process wastewater is eliminated.
