Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF Provides Rework Flexibility and Excellent Performance for Consumer, Communications and General Electrical Soldering Applications

Henkel Develops Versatile Halogen-Free Rework Flux

The Electronics Group of Henkel announces the development and commercial availability of Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF. The new material is a halogen-free flux formulation designed for rework processes and applications where halogen-free processing is required.

In keeping with Henkel’s philosophy of halogen-free material formulation, Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF contains zero deliberately added halogens and falls well below the industry-accepted halogen-free standard of less than 900 parts per illion (PPM) of chlorine and bromine. The new flux is suitable for reflow in air or nitrogen and has been designed specifically for solder rework and compatibility with halogen-free solder pastes.

“As electronics assembly specialists migrate toward halogen-free soldering processes, evolved flux materials will be required,” notes Dr. Mark Currie, Henkel’s Global Product Manager for Solder Materials. “In developing Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF, we leveraged our broad halogen-free expertise to formulate a material that not only delivers market-leading performance, but exceptional processability as well.”

As compared to other flux formulations, Henkel’s Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF offers reduced solder bridging capability, improved wetting, low voiding and better reliability as per testing to the IPC 7095-B Class 3 specification. What’s more, the new formula is so efficient that manufacturers can use a reduced quantity (of flux than that of competitive products to achieve the desired rework outcome. This, combined with Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF’s effectiveness with both traditional and laser soldering applications, enables manufacturers to reduce costs through less material use and multiple application compatibility.

Flexible process capability is the cornerstone of Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF. The material is stable at room temperature for 12 months, performs well with existing halogen-free solutions, has been designed specifically for Pb-free/halogen-free solders and can be dispensed, printed or dipped to meet various manufacturing requirements.

As Currie concludes, Loctite Multicore HF 108RWF sets a new standard for halogen-free rework flux materials. “Today’s electronics assembly manufacturers want comprehensive solutions – materials that can deliver on multiple fronts. This latest flux from Henkel provides the processability, reliability, performance and application flexibility required, all within a robust halogen-free formula that meets demanding market expectations.”
