Henkel offers new food safe adhesive system for demanding flexible packaging applications

Extended shelf-life is one of the dominating trends in the food industry of today. It offers more value and convenience for retail and consumers while generating sustainable benefits by reducing food loss. Packaging is the centerpiece of extended shelf-life. It can be achieved by retort process which requires a certain product and temperature resistance of the food packaging material. When it comes to food, the packaging material not only has to withstand the requirements of demanding and high performance applications. It also has to fulfil rising requirements in safety and health both during the production process and to guarantee food safety for consumers.

Just one system for inner and outer layer
Loctite Liofol LA 2760 / LA 5891-21 and LA 2760 / LA 7371 are suitable for retort applications up to 60 minutes and a temperature up to 134 degrees Celsius. Unlike existing solutions in the market neither tin catalyst nor Bisphenol-A epoxy resins are used in the manufacture. Since the adhesives are based on aliphatic isocyanate starting materials they do not require testing for primary aromatic amines. With just one system for inner and outer layer and with a high percentage of solid content of up to 40 percent, both combinations reduce the consumption of ethyl acetate while granting best wetting properties and high filling good resistance.
